Craft in Action

A look at our partner artisans at work — every product in our collection is woven by hand using traditional techniques.

Product photography across the shop shows finished pieces. This page is about how they get made — work in progress, moulds, and finished runs photographed in our partner workshops in Northeast India.

Part-finished woven bamboo form with spokes still untrimmed

Before the Trim

A shade midway through construction. The spokes radiating from the rim are cut back only once the body has been woven to its full width.

The Workshop Floor

Finished shades collect on the floor as they come off the moulds — bell, drum, and conical forms waiting to be checked and bound.

A Finished Run

Shades are woven in matched runs so a buyer ordering a set of six gets pieces of consistent diameter and weave pitch.

Bundle of lidded bamboo storage cylinders in green bamboo

Green Bamboo, Freshly Woven

Containers bundled straight after weaving. The bamboo is still green here and will mellow to a warm honey tone as it dries.

Handles Set to Shape

Handles are bent from green bamboo while still flexible, bound to the rim at both ends, then left to set before the basket is finished.

Ready for Market

The market basket is the piece the workshop makes most of — the same form our partner artisans have woven for their own households for generations.
